That is one of the most frightening documents I have ever seen. This country isn’t nor was ever meant to be a Theocracy. Not to mention that the ten commandments have no place in America. Sorry to bust your bubble, buddy but…Christians DID create the United States of America. Not as a theocracy true….. yet it still reflected it’s white Christian European Western Civilization roots. It’s not an easy thing to balance just right but you and live in a, basically speaking, Christian nation. As a Christian I work to balance others’ rights in a framework of laws originally based on Christian principles. I know no government is perfect but this is the best we got.

His failure to provide moral leadership at a critical point in our history was/is pathetic. I am so dismayed that the previous President lied to our country countless times and sat by while we cruised towards unemployment and did nothing and NO ONE orgainized such a movement. Now, we have a President trying to clean up the previous mess and people feel he’s out of control because he’s asking people to volunteer to make their community a better place? Because he would like to figure out a way so everyone can be covered if they become ill? Because he wants people to be proud of their country and take an active part in its future? That’s not really out of control. Dan, that really is frightening.

I watched the march in Washington today and this is the first time I’ve read all this.I want to give you my thoughts on all of this ,Im a wife mother and grandmother, my father was in world war II ,my husband was in Viet Nam ,my son was in the Gulf War and now a fireman his wife is a teacher my daughter is an animal activist and a political science major we have 4 beautiful grandchildren .I always taught my children to think and to be respectful of other peoples opinons.Now they have to explain to their children what is happening in our country,the hate that I saw today ,carrying weapons with children there.People with horrible signs about our President do you really want everyone to believe he is so evil ?We have a huge divide in this country is there any way we can talk and not scream at each other ? I have always stood up for this country I protested the Iraq war , we all have the right to do so here but along with that right we have a responsibility I think the word is respect if we lose that what does that say to our children

This man has said numerous times to judge him by the company he keeps, that is what I have done. He has surrounded himself with criminals, communists, Black separatists, and racists. Look at ACORN. Yes, the left has said it is a smear campaign, but you don’t have a smear campaign of so many charges and video taped wrongdoings as we have here. This group is just a small scratch of an umbrella group of crooked organizations all with ties to Obama in some fashion. There is also the question of constitutionality of all thes Czars he has, that answer only to him. The top tax man in congress is a crook in his own right. Jefferson = guilty, the rest of his family is also under indictment or investigation. Now Obama decides to give N. Korea what it always wanted, legitimacy in the eyes of the world. This is strictly a payoff for the two reporters released last month. Obama is a liar, what he says and does are two different things, he has alienated our allies, while chumming up with the despots of the world. He complains of Bush & still blames him, but it’s time he man’s up & start taking credit for his screw-ups. If we as a country can survive till November of 2010, then we will have the chance to whittle down enough of the seats the Dems have in Congress and stop Obama till 2012…
Where do you get your info= Clinton left us heading into a recession, this was compounded by 9/11 and the silicon valley crash; under Bush, this country enjoyed one of its best, ever, periods of economic growth and statisically zero unemployment. With the tax cuts (following same belief as JFK) gov’t revenue grew – as it always does – problem was increased spending as congress did not control itself; in Bush’s last 2 yrs, congress under the Dem’s spent even more – They ignored the oversite committee’s warnings and reports of the problems in the mortgage industry – see u-tube clips of M.Waters and others praising the lies of Raines, etc. who made out like bandits. Gov’t regulations – fed and state – have caused insurance coverage to b/c so expensive- this past week in CA, they passed another bill adding costs onto the HC ins. industry – which will further raise policy costs…….. Gov’t created the problem it now says it will solve. Right. They need to give tax deducts for individual policies; allow Ins co across lines, allow us to form our own groups to buy ins.; reduce mandates so we get coverage we will need/want; pass national tort reform which is 25-30% of up front dr expenses; encourage true free market for ins. coverage. Rt now HC ins comp are lucky to make 3% profit – far less than the min 10% profits of pg&e in CA, for example.

I think many of us have realized that the Federal Gov’t has no business doing the things they do (forced healthcare, forced retirement savings, creating jobs, welfare and on and on). That is the state’s business. The Federal Gov’t is for providing roads and military for protection. For about a hundred of years power hungry career politicians have gone beyond that spectrum. I believe that a large number of us are just fed up. It is not a partisan issue, the hope and change we want is smaller effective Gov’t that will live within their means.
The Federal Gov’t seems to be trying to protect the stupid from themselves, and they are doing a very poor job. So why would I want healthcare from an ineffective swollen out of control gov’t ? I would rather try to make the existing system more efficient.

He is also a meteorologist who gave a superb presentation in New Orleans just after Katrina, explaining how the people of the ward there rebuilt the levies in the 50’s with no government assistance. The town officials were very impressed, until he revealed he was a conservative Republican. They then shut him out immediately and denied him the opportunity to speak again.

What happened to the “civil” in Civil discourse? No one that has even an ounce of education would use such language. I too believe that is a liberal posting on here. There is no need for name calling on either side. State your position, hold your ground, and let that be it. I teach my students that it is a Civic Responsibility (not duty because they are mandatory) to respect the rights of others to voice their opinions on matters concerning the government. Hopefully my students will turn out to be more respectful than the previous generation!

I certainly agree with Elizabeth about the need for civil discourse. I was a teacher too, and the state of education in this nation is woeful. Too much TV is the problem for our students in my opinion, and that goes for “fact-lite” Fox TV as well as TV in general.
Why are Fox news’s ratings so much higher than MSNBC’s right now?–because Fox is broadcasting from a position that is more based on emotions than on black & white facts, and facts are generally boring (though very important).
Take “enhanced interrogation techniques”. Hannity reduces water boarding to “what’s wrong with a little dunking, a little water in the nose?”, as if it was the dunk tank at a state fair or arcade. Who could be opposed to something fun like a dunk tank? An appeal to emotion, not an open-eyed look at the facts.
I am very happy the FBI is taking over the interrogation of terrorist prisoners. The FBI has a long and proud history of developing excellent questioning techniques that get answers and don’t violate our laws–remember, you’re fighting for the “rule of law”, just like I am. Go back and read “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote, for example, for a thorough history of just how the FBI and KBI (Kansas Bureau of Investigation) got the killers to confess. THIS is the kind of smart interrogation we need.

The United States of America was formed in 1776, not in 1620. The Puritans that came here to escape religious persecution were long dead. The Constitution (which is the doctrine for our government as the Bible is your doctrine for your religion) was written to protect every citizen (naturalized or not) from being required to participate in any religion. From what I can determine, you people wish to persecute those that don’t have the same beliefs as you, Is that correct?

Here is an excerpt from the History of Weymouth, Massachusetts, the second settlement of Massachusetts. My family were Puritans from Plymouth in 1622 but we migrated 20 miles north of there and settled in North Weymouth in the mid 1800’s. I spent 45 years of my life there and now live in the Bible Belt. it really bothers me to see “MY” country (as much as everyone else’s) disrupted by people that don’t have any idea as to why the TEA was thrown in and why the revolution was started.

SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE?
We said in the beginning that the original settlers did not come for religious reasons. Subsequent groups, however, brought ministers, including Rev. Hull, so early Weymouth must have had religious services. The year book of the Old North Church at Weymouth Heights states that the church was “Gathered in 1623”. We know that a meetinghouse was built on Watch Hill where the present North Cemetery is, opposite the Soldiers Monument. It was replaced by another built in 1682
However, several Protestant sects were represented in those early days, and they didn’t always get along. Many were Church of England, some were Puritans, and some of other persuasions. Most of the ministers favored the Church of England, but no sect was completely dominant. As newcomers came into Weymouth, the struggle became more intense. There are even cases of men being fined for disturbing the churches. An era of religious persecution of Quakers, Baptists and Episcopalians began, and it became dangerous even to have an English Prayer Book in your hand.
The Pilgrims at Plymouth and the Puritans at Boston did not agree at all about religion, and both were opposed to the rituals of the Church of England, so each applied pressure on Weymouth to follow their religious beliefs. This had the effect of stifling growth in Weymouth and causing many in town to go elsewhere where they could worship without pressure.
Weymouth was seen by the Puritans as the hotbed of the Episcopal Church (Church of England). Their worship was called “Popery” for its rituals that looked similar to those of the Catholic Church. Puritan leaders were determined that it must be stamped out. A committee from Boston was sent to Weymouth to search out and put an end to this form of worship”. Those who favored the Church of England were punished, fined, whipped or driven out of town. Freedom of speech and religion were crushed.
A curious example of this fever has come to us. Governor Endicott, a puritan minister, was so opposed to “Popery” that he cut out the cross from the flag because he considered it a symbol of Popery.
Does any of this sound familar? History will continue to repeat itself until we as HUMANS learn to live together in harmony and not in discourse?

I am not understanding why everyone is protesting against some form of an affordable, government backed health care plan as an option. How many of these protestors have been laid off from a job and had their health care terminated? My fiance is a diabetic and was laid off after working for a company for 25 years. He is now working part-time but is not entitled to a health care plan. The cost of a plan is as much as he makes. Why can’t everyone come to the table and find a way to help Americans that work hard and still can’t afford health care?
It’s pretty simple Carla. They’ve been brainwashed by Rush and Beck, and they hate Obama.

I’ve been watching the chat on this site for several weeks. Their knowledge of the world is limited to what they hear on talk radio and Fox news. As you can imagine their view is quite distorted.
Many visitors have attempted to present them with the facts and they discount them as “liberal lies, socialism, communism, and fascism.” All visitors ask, “where have you been for the last 8 years?” No one can answer. The reason being, they have no clue what’s been happening in the country because their only source of information is Fox news and talk radio.

This blog could have been used to find common ground between two sides of the issues. We could have shared knowledge and experience to seek solutions that are mutually beneficial. We all acknowledge that there are problems. We all want them fixed. Instead, this site was commandeered to fight over ideology. It has been a pissing match over who has cornered the market on truth. Most of the controversy on this site is instigated by one left wing radical troll agitator. He uses a number of tactics to incite anger and derision, including insults and injection of racism. Nothing has been accomplished. No minds have been changed. The fighting plays right into the hands of those that want to establish a totalitarian state.
We, as a population, are weaker when we are divided. We are being manipulated. We are bombarded daily with rhetoric that is designed to deepen the divisions. Among the tools for manipulation are words and phrases that are carefully chosen to drive our emotions to either agree with the agenda or fight against those that disagree. These tools are used by the politicians, as well as the media that has a vested interest in propagating the agenda. Traditionally news reporting is virtually dead in the mass media. How many investigative reporters can you name? Reporting has been replaced with Repeating.
Most politicians are far more concerned about re-election than your welfare. They have achieved a level of power that they refuse to relinquish. Power breeds greed. Greed breeds corruption. Corruption breeds contempt. Why give them even more power?
Love your country. Distrust your government. Question everything and everyone.
