More press coverage of the March on DC
Sunday’s Washington Times ran a nice piece about the upcoming March on DC. The story was picked up by the Associated Press and was re-printed in many online newspapers and blogs. Here is an excerpt:
Tens of thousands of demonstrators are expected to descend upon the nation’s capital next weekend to voice their concerns about what they call Congress’ “nonstop tax-and-spend agenda” in the first-ever Taxpayer March on D.C.
The three-day event will begin Thursday morning at the D.C. Armory in Southeast Washington and is expected to end Saturday with a march from Freedom Plaza down Pennsylvania Avenue to a rally on the U.S. Capitol steps. Participants can attend workshops and lobby their congressmen while attending rallies on health care and the economy.
Event organizer Brendan Steinhauser of FreedomWorks – a conservative grass-roots organization headed by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey – said he expects tens of thousands of people to attend on Saturday.
“Why take to the streets? It’s much more visible than calling congressmen who don’t answer their phones anyway,” Mr. Steinhauser said. “There will be a visual of a huge crowd on the steps of the Capitol to show that a lot of people are unified in one time at one place with one voice saying, ‘Enough is enough.’ ”
The group says it expects demonstrators to travel from all over the country to attend the event.

I just wanted to stop by and let everyone know that we will be covering one mans trek to DC for the 3 days of protest. What makes this man so special you may ask… He’s 77 years old and will be sleeping in his car for 5 nights to attend all 3 days of protest. And if you ask why… He loves his country and cannot stand to see what’s happening to her.
We will write a short intro this evening, then cover him starting Tuesday as he leaves his home state of Arkansas to make his way to DC. Once he’s in DC we will be posting updates as he sends them.

Where were all of you when Bush screwed the country and bled us dry with his retarded mentality and secret deals. We as a country voted him in office and can not blame him for the previous 12 years of mismanagement. Your organization may have some good points but we as a nation must give our President a chance to correct and undo Bush’s crap!!! President Obama has not been in office a year yet and already, everyone’s condemning him, did anyone come out in numbers to protest Bush’s policies on economics, education, military affairs, and social welfare. My parents came to this country in 1964….I was 7 years old , I didn’t realize then what turmoil was going on …….but I do see the fruit of that turmoils labor …..and its taken 45 yrs to manifest itself, ….this government along with all the preceeding one’s has had one goal in mind …..and in my opinion that goal is to make us all dependent on it ….first.thru the welfare system and now the health care system ….WHY SHOULD I WORK ?????……If I don’t I can become part of the machine , but that also means that when the part that I play doesn’t sing in tune with the rest ….THEN OF COURSE THEY CAN LAY ME TO REST…..wake up america !!!!!!….. the more the government does for you the less you are needed
I agree Mario. I don’t like what the current administration is doing but I haven’t liked what the previous administration did either. We are allowing the government to take control of every aspect of our lives. As we relinquish power to them, we need to realize there’s no going back. Once they gain control they are not going to simply step aside and give it back to us. We need a government that is going to stick to the constitution. The federal govt is butting in to areas that should be left up to the states and their people. Our country is turning into a police state and I can’t stand it!

Gessie, I am proud to be a patriot. Since when did being a patriot become a dirty word? I do know one thing; we are SILENT NO MORE! This country was founded by men of greatness. It is time for every one of us to stand up and speak out and do not stop until we have taken our country back from the corrupt politicians; both democrats, republicans and independents alike. Wish it was 300, but I know that there will be thousands of FairTaxers from Georgia in Freedom Plaza Sat am and we’ll be working our way down to the Capitol for the rally. I personally think there will be several hundred thousand in attendance, based upon how difficult it already is to find a hotel room anywhere near DC.

I’ve read a couple places that they are estimating 50,000. I think that is a far cry from how many are coming. I have 8 people coming with me, many of whom contacted me first and some who I didn’t even know were political. Another friend (who is not political at all) told me yesterday that her whole husband’s family is coming in from NY. I know it’s all anecdotal, but you get that feeling that there’s a groundswell going on. I also think that after Obama’s speech tonight, you’ll see lots make a last minute decision to go from MD, PA, VA, DE, WV, and a few other states that are within several hours drive. Rise and shine, people. Saturday morning – wake up early, get a coffee on the go, and drive! You can park at the Metro and ride in. It’s not that hard. Just do it!!! Let’s get that number up past 100,000 and maybe to 200,000. That’ll shock Washington!
I estimate about 400,000 sq ft of space on the lawn, at 2 sq ft per person we max out at 200,000.
I hope it is standing room only.

Share Print CommentsWASHINGTON — A former top official for Voice of America was indicted Friday on corruption charges, accused of taking thousands of dollars in concert and sports tickets in exchange for favors to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
Horace Cooper, who is also a one-time aide to former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey, is accused of defrauding the government after getting choice seats to see ‘N Sync, the Dixie Chicks, and Bruce Springsteen, among others.
The indictment charges Cooper agreed to use his position at Voice of America – and his subsequent job at the Labor Department – to advance the interests of Abramoff and his clients.
Abramoff was sentenced in September 2008 to four years in prison on charges of mail fraud, conspiracy and tax evasion. Since pleading guilty in 2006, the once-powerful lobbyist has cooperated with the federal investigation of influence-peddling in Washington.
The long-running corruption probe has led to the convictions of one former congressman – Republican Bob Ney of Ohio – and 16 others, including lobbyists, Bush administration officials, congressional staffers and businessmen.
Prosecutors say that between 2002 and 2004, Cooper received thousands of dollars worth of free meals or drinks at Abramoff’s restaurant, as well as a free Super Bowl party for him and about 25 friends.
The five-count indictment charges Cooper also took thousands of dollars worth of free entertainment, including tickets to professional baseball, hockey, basketball, and tennis events, as well as concert tickets.
Officials say Cooper did not report the gifts on government paperwork.
Cooper’s lawyer, Solomon Wisenberg, denied the charges.
“We are very disappointed that the Department of Justice has decided to go forward with these charges,” the lawyer said. “Horace Cooper is innocent and we look forward to our day in court.”
Cooper, 44, worked as chief of staff at Voice of America in 2002, before taking the same position at the Department of Labor’s Employment Standards Administration, where he worked until 2005.
In both positions, prosecutors charge, he used his official position to advance the private interests of the lobbyist Abramoff and his clients.
The indictment charges Cooper agreed to help Abramoff secure VOA funding for the lobbyist’s newly formed television production business, and assist an Abramoff client, a Mariana Islands garment manufacturer, with an investigation they were facing by the U.S. Department of Labor.
He is due in court next month on charges of fraudulent concealment, false statements, and one count of obstruction of an official proceeding. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the most serious charge

To celebrate labor day, I had a good ole fashioned barbecue grill out yesterday and invited some good friends over. I didn’t go out of town or anything, mainly because I’m saving up for the trip to washington, but I had enough to spare for a “Costco” run. Well it was a great success overall and the opportunity came up to discuss my trip to washington DC. I had to turn down tickets to the Dolphins Falcons opening season game and when asked why I had to “respectfully decline”, the reaction was that of surprise.
They could not believe that I was getting “politically involved” and flying to washington DC for the 912 march….I guess that in their eyes I didn’t fit the mold for a “protestor”, being a young 27 male who’s been known to party. But I made it very clear that above all I’m an American and my faith is to no party, but to the Constitution, and those who fight for our freedoms. A guest of one of my friends took great interest in my viewpoints and drive to go to washington and have my voice heard. I later came to find out that she has a husband who’s a Collonel currently stationed in Iraq. It felt so good to tell her “thank you” and that I am one of many Americans who owed our debt to those in uniform. She too was very thankful for my comments and my active pursuit to make my voice heard; in truth, I deserve no thanks.
Thank you all who serve to protect our freedoms granted to us by the constitution. I can not wait to stand by everyone’s side come Saturday.

I am flying in from GA and am very excited and “fired up!” I really hope there are indeed going to be tens of thousands of fellow patriots on Saturday. We need as big a turn-out as we can get! I hope there is close to 100,000! We need to stop Obama and his bevy of Communist czars and liberal chronies from tearing the Constitution to utter shreds! His goals such as universal healthcare, immodest spending, and moving toward his ultimate goal of making “green” living mandatory, among so so many others, are just a few of the ways he can initially gain more control over the freedoms of the American people in his efforts to move toward a Marxist-type regime! These are just the little seeds that will eventually grow into a huge oak with branches extending in every direction imaginable! But we all already know that, and I can’t wait to see everyone on Saturday!!

We just watched a movie Diverted about how and Newfoundland and Canada took 40 planes and passengers on that terrible day that changed our world. Newfoundlanders gave sustenance and hope to the stranded. The movie had to give a la Hollywood, love stories, but in truth it shows this: NFLD and Canada held thousands of terrified , strranded passengers in our safe, loving and unprepared arms for 4 terrible days.

I Flew in from Tampa, just arrived here in Washington DC a few hours ago. My oldest son and a good old freind of mine are driving up to meet me. If I would have planned better I could have had a fairly large contingent of fellow counrty loving Patriots joining us. I have just recently started cutting and pasting articals discribing the presidents advisors/ Czars and sending emails out to everyone I know. He has surrounded himself with many people whom make it pretty clear as to his agenda. I suggest every here do the same. Not all are receptive and some have gotten angry at me, called me names, ETC. I will not deviate! I love my country and I will do what it takes! Please do the same.

That is what I have been doing for six months now. DO NOT stop doing what you are doing with the emails. I have lost two friends so far, however, if I have changed the minds of 10-15 people around so that they see the “light” then it was all worth it! With the path that we are headed, it is in every history book that health care reform is the MOST difficult change, however, once it’s accomplished, then the rest of “change” is just a free for all. If you need any ammunition emails, let me know and I’ve collected some that are very mind shattering! I believe with Obama’s plan, this health care issue is driving him nuts because we are not being compliant, but he is persistent! If we do end up taking on a socialized health care, then comes the TV, radio and internet, complete control of the banks and everyone will “share” their income. The taxation will be at approx. 36%. Don’t forget, he needs ALL the illegal aliens to get into this country, that in turn guarantees him majority votes in the future and that in turn will keep him in office for LIFE. Not a very nice thought. The main thing we need to do is keep the majority vote out of the country, yes illegal aliens, if we don’t we are in for a very socialist ride, which I personally do not want to take!

This means that you might actually have to work. Without that bailout, millions of Americans would be dying on the streets right now… not that that won’t happen soon enough. The monopolies of today are not going to be dissolved like those of old; they are not just steel and utilities today. The monopolies today feed you! ConAgra, Cargill, Smithfield, Tyson, and Kraft have you by the proverbial “nuts”. You are no longer eating healthy foods straight from the soil, but instead, your food is caloric pig lard enriched with mined nutrients. “New food” as I’ve heard a few put it.
Your food distribution is so reliant on cheap oil, that America has set itself up for a complete meltdown. Saudia Arabia is getting savvy to this, Mexico is getting savvy to this; notice their extreme decline in wanting to trade oil for US paper money?
You want to do something for yourself… Take Michelle Obama’s advice, and plant a garden. Now, before you perish. Or, keep whining about how your own greed for cheap processed food is killing this country; how you personally support the exploited labor of these illegal immigrants by buying that cheap processed food. How you’re too lazy work beyond the 40 hours per week, even at home cooking your own food.

Monopolies are the standard here, not the exception. They are the foundation of every socialist nation, as food production is the foundation of every good economy.

Where were all of you when Bush screwed the country and bled us dry with his retarded mentality and secret deals. All of sudden you guys come out of the woodwork or may I say underground; once we have an African-American President. We as a country voted him in office and can not blame him for the previous 12 years of mismanagement. Your organization may have some good points but we as a nation must give our President a chance to correct and undo Bush’s crap!!! President Obama has not been in office a year yet and already, everyone’s condemning him, did anyone come out in numbers to protest Bush’s policies on economics, education, military affairs, and social welfare. If your organization and others like it would have come out in numbers maybe our country wouldn’t be in financial ruin!!!!
March on The Media!
Obviously, the “main stream” media are hard of hearing and seeing. About 2 million mad-as-hell taxpayers assembling in Washington, D.C. for the largest-ever (most well-behaved ever, most respectful ever) protest did not make it onto their radar screens (or our TV screens).
They need our help. Maybe we cannot repeat an assembly of 2 million mad-as-hell taxpaying patriots in one place, but surely those who longed to go and couldn’t would love to be a part of Operation “Can You Hear Us Now?” I’ll bet for every one patriot who went to D.C. there are 10-20 more who wished they could have been there as well.
Well my friends, HAVE I GOT A PLAN FOR YOU…
It’s called, “Operation: Can You Hear Us Now?” Here’s how it might work, but feel free to improvise!
Step 1: Contact all your freedom-loving, American-loving, free-speech loving friends and get together to plan. Draw from your local Tea Party group or 9/12 group or other friends. Protest all things you did in D.C. – plus the complicit media!
Step 2: Identify local left-wing media outlets (most likely TV, since no one reads newspapers anymore).
Step 3: Plan a tea-party rally for October 17th, 2009. If you have enough folks, visit multiple sites concurrently, otherwise pick your least favorite, liberally biased outlet as ground zero. Time it for max participation for the working (i.e. tax-paying) class. Before the AM news or at the evening 6 o’clock hour might be good (local time).
Step 4: Use your 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech right outside their offices or broadcast locations. Make sure you are on public property, not private property. Bring your signs, banners, flags, and voices to the event. Protest big government, small minds in Congress, and liberal media atrocities in reporting (or non-reporting). (Watch for the Free Speech media to attempt to have you forcibly removed by law enforcement – so stay on public property!)
Step 5: Be peaceful, respectful, but let them HEAR you and SEE you. Remember, they are hard of hearing and their eyesight isn’t what it used to be the last 8 years prior. They accidentally missed 2 million people protesting in D.C. in one of the biggest protests in US History. Bring your video to upload clips to the internet later.
Step 6: Complete your tea party with a cup o’ tea before leaving the premises. Go home (remember to leave no litter behind – we’re not liberals).
Step 7: Turn on the TV and see if they saw you. If not, smile and remember that November 2010 is just several more Tea parties away!
