Important Bus Guidelines
If you have chartered a bus, please be sure to obtain a permit for the duration of your stay. The permit is $50, and is good for six days. Buses without permits could get a $500 ticket! Also, there is a rule for buses in DC that says they can’t idle on the street for more than 3 minutes. Please be aware of these and other rules and regulations listed below.
We recommend dropping people off at Union Station or RFK Stadium. Union Station is a 10 minute walk to the Capitol. If you drop folks off at RFK they can take the Metro in to the March. The closest Metro stops near Freedom Plaza are Metro Center and Federal Triange.
Union Station will have some bus parking available for 50-60 buses. Reservation requests must be faxed to Mike at 202-898-1955. His contact number is 202-898-1950 x 22 (work) and 240-460-2113 (cell).
Buses cannot drop people off right in front of the rally site. Also, there are specific routes for buses that come to DC. Here is more info on parking buses in DC.
BUS PERMITS
Here is the info on bus permits from the District of Columbia.
Trip Permit
Motor carriers, chartered buses (including chartered shuttle buses), and other vehicles which fall under the definition of apportionable vehicles (see IRP section) but are not apportioned or fully registered in the District of Columbia, may obtain a trip permit for a $50 fee. The Trip Permit* is valid for six (6) days of travel within the District of Columbia. It must be maintained on the vehicle throughout the duration of travel in the District of Columbia. The trip permit is only to be used for the vehicle listed on the front of the permit.
Government Vehicles and School Buses Transporting Students
A motor carrier or bus that is owned by a governmental entity or registered as a government vehicle is exempt from IRP regulations. Those vehicles are not required to carry a trip permit. Displaying a federal or state government license plate on the truck, van, or bus is one way to show the vehicle meets this exemption.
Enforcement
- Any vehicle owner that uses a trip permit for a vehicle other than the one listed on the front of the trip permit, is subject to a fine of not more than $500 or 180 days imprisonment or both.
- Any applicant that misuses, transfers or sells a trip permit is subject to a fine of not more than $1000 or 180 days imprisonment or both.
- Any vehicle that does not have a trip permit or is not apportioned to operate in the District will be assessed a $500 fine.
Online Trip Permit System
Any business can obtain a trip permit, but it is required to apply for registration with the DMV.
Registration Process is simple and free. Any business may register to obtain trip permit(s). Below is a summary of the benefits of the online trip permit registration process.
Benefits & Features
- Secure, reliable and fast access to the DMV Trip Permit web site;
- Registrant business name and address information will be stored during registration. Upon requesting Trip Permits, registrant information will be pre-populated on all relevant forms (based on the registration). Registrant will therefore only be required to enter vehicle specifics, along with date and time details.
- Upon completion of the registration process, a business registrant is provided with a business ID and is allowed to add upto10 individual users. Each of the users will be provided with a login ID and password to access the DMV Trip Permit web site.
- The first user from a business who will apply for the business registration will be considered the business administrator. An administrator can add users and set their profiles.
- Registrant will be able to retrieve and review reports such as processed trip permits, permit changes, etc.
- It is possible to delegate administrator rights to another active user.
Registrants are allowed to log in to perform the following transactions:
- Online Trip Permit Request
- Trip Permit Change Request
- Reports and Archival Trip Permits
Ordering a Trip Permit
The District of Columbia DMV has made it easy to obtain a trip permit for use while traveling in the District.
Options to purchase a trip permit:
Registrant Business(s) may purchase a trip permit online. All requests made online through DMV’s website will be processed within 24 to 48 hours upon the receipt of required documents and associated payment.
Businesses who pay online (see accepted forms of online payments below) may print the trip permit on their local printer after completing the online transaction. A copy of the trip permit will be delivered to the email address, provided at the time of request.
A business may request a trip permit online but choose not to pay online. If this option (‘Defer Payment’) is selected, the business will be required to send a check or money order to DMV at the address provided, along with the confirmation receipt which they will receive at the end of the transaction.
Note: Allow 15 days for mailing. Trip permit(s) will be mailed (USPS only, No courier service is in place) for such requests. If the entered trip effective date is falling within 15 days, please choose Email or Pick Up from DMV location as a delivery option.
Transmit America
Businesses may also purchase trip permits from Transit America. Please visit the TRANSMIT AMERICA website for more information.
Pick Up on Arrival
Customers may visit DMV – Information Desk located at 95 M Street SW, Washington DC. Monday – Saturday 8:15 am – 4:00 pm (Sunday Closed) to apply, pay (Please see accepted payment method) and receive Trip Permits.
Registered businesses may request a permit change via the DMV website, in the event of mechanical malfunction or other unforeseen situations necessitating vehicle replacement or change of trip date.
- Permit changes will be allowed only once provided the conditions are met below.
- Permit change request information will be stored in the DMV system. MPD and Park Police will be notified regarding changes in permits linking them to the original permit information.
- Businesses will be allowed to edit/change the vehicle information, only if the trip expiration date has not passed. The trip date field will be authorized for change, only if the trip date will be a future date.
- Businesses will only be provided with the confirmation receipt of the permit change request. A physical replacement permit will not be issued.
- Businesses must be able to print on their local printer confirmation receipt at the end of the successful permit change transaction.
- Businesses must maintain the original permit and confirmation receipt of the permit change request on the vehicle throughout the duration of travel in the District of Columbia.
Accepted Forms of Payments
These are the currently accepted forms of payment:
- Credit Card (Visa, Master Card, Discover)
- Money Order/Check (Made Payable to “DC Treasurer”)
- No Cash Accepted
Check Verification:
All checks received by DMV will be reviewed for the following items:
- Date
- Address and Phone Number
- Payable to “DC Treasurer”
- Signature or Endorsement
- Amount
- Transaction confirmation number of the Trip Permit receipt
Dishonored Check(s)
A $65 penalty will be imposed per dishonored check.
Note: Additional permits will not be authorized pending clearance of such occurrences.
Refund: No refunds will be authorised

The facts are the top 1% of income earners pay 40% of the federal incomes taxes. The top 25% pay 80% and the bottom 50% of income earners pay only 3% yet consume over 90% of the social programs. Corporations pay your half of SS, Medicare, etc or an additional 16% on top of the 13% corporate taxes paid. And this does not even include the taxes paid through many forms of regulations at the federal, state, city and local levels.
What happens is government taxation on incomes causes wealth shelters and drives inflation through the roof. Everyone is paying up to 22% more on the price of goods and services because of taxing businesses. Who does this hurt? Yes, the poor and even the middle classes. The IRS must go. It is the 37th largest corporation employing 144,000 people to steal your income. It has more investigative units than the FBI and CIA combined. The compliance cost to our economy is $265 billion a year and 7 billion hours a year wasted. The IRS itself costs $10B a year to operate.

I would like you to read the Constitution, it gives us the right to life liberty and the pursuit of(but not the guarantee of) happiness. I am not Yeshua, but there are many places in The Bible that gives one the right, and in fact the obligation to criticize the views of others. But no matter, it is The Constitution Of The United States Of America and our Bill Of Rights that recognize our right to criticize the beliefs of any person. And I stress “recognize” because these rights are intrinsic by virtue of human rational self-awareness. If you would like I can give you a Spread sheet that breaks down taxes paid and collected by the government with remainder going to employ more people etc. The whole thing is merely a math problem….. When Taxes are high the money comes back to the government faster…. when taxes are lower the money comes back slower but the government STILL GETS IT ALL BACK…. No mater what…. the government gets all the money back that it prints through taxation when taxes are increased (iregarless of if on the rich or poor) that money is taken out of circulation… that money could have been used to pay someone for a product or service thereby creating another job. If a person has a job he/she does not need government help or hand out thereby ruducing government cost. I am afraid that you are merely a liberal plant to stir up the people that are standing up for their rights to not have all of their money taken away.

Oh by the way I am one of the 50 Million uninsured at this time…. I have found some individual health insurance for as little as $185.00 per month that will cover up to $1,000,000.00 in hospital stay….. I am unemployed and having trouble finding work because of the Tramatic Brain Injury I suffered 6 years ago Though I work pick up jobs etc I believed I could not afford it….. and would have to take a government hand out (medicade) but once I truely looked at my finances I decided I need to REALLY Prioritze… So I am canceling my cell Phone ($72.00/mo) Canceling my Cable ($92.00/mo) and my internet service ($32.00/mo) sure it is a hassle now to use the computer at the library or at a friend’s house but the money I saved is $196.00/mo more than enough to pay for my health insurance….. so if I were to support the health care bill to get Free Insurance…… am I not in reality asking the government to pay for my cell phone, my cable and my inernet service?

Make the rich richer? Currently the money is going to fat cats that failed and under capitolism when you play the game you gamble. Those that work hard and offer good product suceed and those that don’t and are friends with this current administration get bail outs. Is there a reason why so many are losing jobs? Is there a reason why this administration keeps spending money and borrows from the Chinese? Should we all work for the govurment and not produce goods and services only to have the elite govurment workers get proper housing and food or should we as peasants make all the same money and live in poor conditions wanting in food line for a loaf of bread.
I personally don’t want to stand in another line that the govurment provides and I work many hours and sometime I get hurt and have no health insurance but all hospitals and clinics have to take and care for you, you just have to pay out of pocket.

A better way to stay informed is to avoid radio or TV with an agenda. Liberal or conservative, they take information, show only one side of the story and spin or outight lie about it to garner support from the gullible who are too lazy or are unwilling to verify the information for themselves.

Your argument of presumed symmetry between Olbermann and Beck is mistaken. Olbermann’s tool of rational logical debate is ad hominem attack on the person making the argument and not on the argument itself. Beck’s Show is clearly up-front not claiming objective neutral reporting, as Olbermann maintains his show does. In addition, Beck shows the would be tyrant czar or czarina in their own words, stating their goals in plain English. And I will spare us the following exchange:

The next group of 15M or so would be the truly poor, or homeless. Certainly deserving of basic health services, but not the ones who will be getting the CT’s, MRI’s, PET’s, etc all in one day to attempt to diagnose their problem.

The number of uninsured is growing because of the massive job losses from the recession, lack of affordable health care, and a rising population.

I am glad that there are people out there who have the money to pay their doctor bills without help. They must be extremely wealthy.
700,000 people a year go bankrupt due to emdical bills. This only happens in the US.
That is why being uninsured is a bad thing for the people who can’t afford $2000 for an MRI out of pocket.
I have no problem with doctors, who when polled, on average will say that they didn’t get into it for the high salaries. I applaud any doctor that got into the trade primarily to help sick people
Being poor has little to do with being lazy and a lot to do with economic environment, social circumstances/conditioning, poor luck due to illness/accidents, racism, mental illness or a combination of factors. Sure there are lazy folks who think welfare is owed to them and refuse to work but they are the exception rather than the rule and I support welfare reform that will weed these folks out.

It does not solve the problem that their are high family deductibles nor regulate the cost of fees. If you do not pay, the State can take the money from your paycheck or your income tax refund. It can put a lien on your property.
READ the bill. It will scare you as this is one of the models that is being looked at for Health care reform.

A popular Cleveland area radio talk show host said recently at a Tea Party that brought out over 7,000 people in Akron Ohio, the only way to change the media is to hit them in their pocket books. (There was no media coverage of this huge event by the way)
When you go home after the DC event and see that none of your local media is reporting the gathering or that they shed a negative light on it, you need to keep watching for the next hour or so and make a note of every advertiser on that runs a commercial on those stations.
Then you need to call all of those companies, local or national and tell them that you will not be purchasing their products because the stations that they are supporting financially with their advertising dollars are not giving an honest or accurate reporting of the legitimate opposition of the dismantling of the United States economy ant the rights of its citizens. Ask them how the media can ignore a gathering of that many thousands of Americans in Washington DC, or if they even heard of the event.
Then tell them to be sure to tell their advertising sales representative that you called and what you said so that the message gets back to the media source.
If enough people do this, businesses will change where they put their dollars and the media will notice. You must keep this up though for at least a couple or few months or until this administration is out of office or looses its majority in 2010.
You have to hit them in their pocket books.

This is the first time ever for me to ventur off into the big citys. I am disabled but have a wheel chair and a fellow marcher to help push. Our problem is, we do not have any idea as to where to go when we get into DC, Where to park or leave our pick up truck so it dosn`t mysteriously get towed away or something of that nature. We are traveling from Missouri, staying with relatives in Ohio to rest up and then planned on hitting DC in the early AM on 9 \ 12. Are there a parking place for the thousands of POV vehicles that will probably show up? If I was to get a motel the Night before does any one know if the motels out there have shuttle buses that will carry us to the march site and take us back? I want to do this in a bad way and will appreciate any help I can get. But I really need those answeres before setting off.

This is about more than health care reform.
The cost of health care is out of control and the insurance companies are fat cats raking in our hard-earned money. That being said, it is the GOVERNMENT who regulates the insurance companies. The insurance companies lobby the GOVERNMENT so basically they have the GOVERNMENT in their back pockets, just like every other large lobbying group does. Those who are blaming the “evil” insurance companies for the exorbitant cost of health care should be placing most of that blame on the greedy GOVERNMENT who wheels and deals with special interest groups and allows them to get away with everything they do. EVERYONE in the government has ALWAYS known how out of control the situation is. Why is it suddenly so important that we have to hurry up and change the whole system immediately? There is more to this than meets the eye. This is a very complicated and multi-faceted issue. There are many things about health care that must be changed but we can’t rush — we have to get it right. Simply blaming the “evil” insurance companies and other corporations while turning a blind eye to the government’s part in the whole mess just doesn’t work.
I for one am sick and tired of working for those who refuse to get off their lazy butts and help themselves and also for those who are here illegally. I’ve been a single mom for 18 years. When my ex decided he wouldn’t help financially with the raising of our son, I tried to get food stamps to help us and was turned down. I have to pay full price for my son’s college education (county college) without ANY tuition assistance (except loans, of course). So I sit here and watch bitterly I might add, while the children of the lazy people and the illegal people go to college on my dime. How can I not be bitter?
Here’s a newsflash for all of you who believe in sharing the wealth and for all of you who believe they are entitled to get everything handed to them for free:
You are all confused. You see, this is the United States of America and the United States of America is different. She is the shining city on the hill. She stands out as a beacon of hope and freedom. You are in the wrong country. But please don’t fret. There are many places in this big cruel world that you can go to. You don’t have to stay here. You’re free to leave this country and go to the country that represents your idea of utopia. Some of them won’t let you in though because they don’t practice freedom and liberty and they protect their borders diligently. So if you decide to sneak across some other border in search of your utopia, you better be really, really careful because if you get caught, you might end up dead, or worse you might end up in a hard labor camp for life. So if you’re looking for the place where the haves are robbed to give to the have-nots, where the government gives everything to you in exchange for your giving them control over every area of your life, please go. Go, and when you do, feel free to live as you choose. You can give away as much as you want to people who don’t deserve it so their families can do what you and yours can’t afford to do. Heck, give it ALL away, I couldn’t care less. (Your government may take it all first, LOL)!
Me, I’ll stay here in this country I love, working hard and doing what’s right.
Wow, just think, if all of you like-minded people took this advice and moved to your utopia, this country would finally have some peace and prosperity.

How about this one- any baby born to illegal immigrants from ANYWHERE would not be and American Citizen, until after his parents become legal citizens. I was prompted to say that it is unf’in- believable that American citizens require such a thing as a Trip Permit! Does that rest easily on all your minds? We are becoming sheeple and allowing our current Government to do and demand things which King George III wouldn’t even have desired, let alone enacted! Could you imagine if The Continental Army disbanded when the British refused to allow a Trip Permit! These “talking points” as you describe them have been going on since 1776 and before. They were being used long before there were “ditto heads”.
