The Tea Party Movement Goes to Capitol Hill

List of Buses Coming to DC

I just wanted to post the latest bus information for people looking for a ride to Washington for the 9-12 March on DC. Please get directly in touch with the bus captains below who are organizing groups to come to the March. Note that you will have to pay your fair share to cover the costs. Unlike the unions, we will not be paying for the buses.  But this is something that you DO NOT want to miss!

  7. I’m living the American dream. I want my children and grandchildren to have it better than my parents passed on to me but our government is leading us awayb from that goal with a path to socialism. it is time to quit being a spectator, get off the couch and make freedom happen. See you at the rally in Washington on September 12.

  8. looking for a bus leaving from the Norristown PA area, please send any info anyone has
    Thanks

  9. CHARLESTON, SC We still have room on our fourth bus departing Fri Sept 11th at 7am – package includes roundtrip bus and two nights in a hotel. Please see the Charleston Tea Party website for details: http://charlestonteaparty.org/aboutus.aspx We will depart DC on Sun Sept 13th at 11:30 am arriving Charleston at approximately 9:30 pm

  10. What left wing organization to you belong too? I worked in a federal medicaid waiver program for 15 years. Services are limited to a certain number of people each year. When you have a limited budget, you have to ration services. Use your logical deductive reasoning skills, don’t blindly listen to slanted rhetoric.

    • Why do “illegal Immigrates” receive SSI for 3 years. How can a non-citizen receive anything from a goverment they don’t belong to and have never paid a dime in Taxes?

  11. Just wanted anyone from the Louisville KY/Southern IN area to know that we are trying to get a bus (or 2) together to go to 9/12 march. This is a very quick turnaround time to get this done. Please contact Terri at 502-538-4342 (H) or 502-744-3760 (C) for further details. Bus will go on 9/11 and return after the march on 9/12 so no overnight accomodations necessary. This is a way to go REALLY CHEAP.

    Thanks!

  12. keep up the spirit. let us know how many come!

  13. my “irrational” thinking (your words) is much more pragmatic than your analytical crap (my term) would suggest.

my dislike of the health care bill (hb3200) derives from several components:
*the requirement to allow electronic access to my bank account-i am highly selective as to who has access to my financial information
*electronic record keeping of my health history, which repudiates my right to privacy (granted, Congress already gave this away in the stimulus bill)
*the ability of a G’vmt Bureaucrat the right to access my IRS information without my express authorization (which i would vehemently deny) to determine if i am able to receive additional benefits
*the establishment of a special panel to determine what procedures and treatments are suitable for my treatment (what is to keep this panel of 16?32?-i forget- to be appointed political hacks of whatever party is in power at the time acting in my best interest, especially if that will cost money?)
*the assumption of 100% of Union Health care (and other unspecified groups) -not the 80/20 the rest of the peons in the plan
*the unwillingness of Congress to impose this on themselves, their families, or government employees (there is an obvious parallel that could be made here between the benefits of the Politburo Class and the lesser citizens of the old USSR)
*the implicit promise that everyone will be covered regardless of circumstance-lovely thought, but with our porous borders and unwillingness to enforce legal immigration, i forsee unlimited costs to treat illegal immigrants, helping neither the citzen taxpayer or legal taxpayer immigrants….and destined to destroy the health care projected budget.
*the imposition of a “penalty” imposed on exisiting insurance companies to “pay” for the nationalized coverage, which would impose additional cost to the plan holder to stay in the private plan-in addition to the taxes they would pay to cover the remaining cost of the nationalized plan.
*the tacit discussion from some Democratic leaders that withholding best care to seniors might be rationalized to provide care to younger more productive citizens….does this happen at 60,65, 75, 80?…my own family have long lives-an actuarial nightmare to the Bureaucrats trying to meet budget targets…would my dad have gotten treatment for Prostrate Cancer 8 years ago at age 80 under this plan? he is hale and hearty today, because his doctor recognized his excellent health and prognosis for long life with treatment. (Great Aunt May died last year at 102, none Dad’s relatives died of natural causes before age 86, most well into the 90’s.)

perhaps my most “irrational” dislike of HB3200 is the frequent non-correlation between the verbal promises of the plan as described by our political leaders and the actual components of the plan….they are shoveling shit and calling it “honey”

although, now that i think about it, my most “irrational” dislike of HB3200 is that for all the rhetoric of highminded intentions and goals, it does not address the root causes of the cost of healthcare in our country, merely substituting the government and its bureaucracy for that of the independent insurance company. (and reduces competition to 1)

my dislike of this Congress and its reckless spending:
*9000 earmarks in the 2008 Omnibus spending bill -delayed til after the election for obvious reasons….riders to critical bills which have not passed thru “discussion” by my elected representatives, this is the makings of public corruption of our elected officials, regardless of party, and are harmful to the american ideal.-i offer up the example of Chris Dodd furtively tacking on the AIG bonuses to the TARP funding, so Congress could rail against the evil bankers, and receive their campaign contributions simoultaneously?
*does any one recall the “steroid” hearings in congress, vilifying the sports celebrities use of performance enhancing drugs, while vigorously ignoring the roiling beginnings of the Real Estate/Mortgage Meltdown, denying real problems with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac oversight (and receiving large campaign contributions from same-and of course from Countrywide and other contributors?) (you may have seen that both Dodd, Banking Committee Chair, and Conrad, budget committee chair, were exonerated by the ethics committee)
*the stimulus bill looks more like a “buy the vote-2010/2012″ bill, as 2/3 of the emergency spending does not happen for over 2 years-or more
*the ethical challenges against Murtha, Rangel, the tax cheats assigned to the presidents staff and administration, dare we mention Tony Rezko, and Chicago “pay for play”??? not to mention the fannie Mae folks on staff (makes me long for the nanny-gate scandals of previous administrations)….i am grateful for the demise of Cunningham, and other Abramov challenged officials, but it looks like the Democrats are still protecting their own, at the nation’s expense)
*auto bailouts, bank bailouts, cash for clunkers, cash for appliances…
*i object to the government dictating policy and ethics to private entities (even those ethically challenged businesses), demanding $1 salaries, complaining of corporate jets, while slapping themselves on the back with a nice Congressional Raise, Budget increase, planning their taxpayer trip to Maui, the Tortugas, or wherever….any politician offering up their salary for a $1?
*this Congress, and administration ran against the $3Trillion Bush debt, 6 months in we are just shy of $12Trillion, and Healthcare hasn’t even hit the budget line as yet….(good god!)
*i object to the blinders worn by this and previous congresses willfully ignoring the impending insolvency of Social Security and Medicare funds, both due to be cash negative somewhere between 2017 and 2023, at current best guess….with no set-aside to pay back the stolen funds….
*of course, i object to the vilification of average citizens by this Congress, and this Administration as “terrorists” “nazis”, angry mobs, racists, ignorant dupes and hicks, rednecks, illiterates, astroturf idiots, morons, and so on….from this end, i can’t help but think that any elected representative who holds this view of the citizens and voters does note deserve their office….they have lost touch when they begin to believe that they know better than i how i should think, and live…
*i object to the view of Senior Democrats such as Conyers, who sees no point in Reading the HealthCare Bill, because it’s too big, and too difficult to understand without a team of lawyers to explain it-though he will vote for it anyway…

now, why would i trust any of these bozos to look out for me? i’m just their piggy bank to help them buy all the nice shiny toys for the voters they are buying off so that they may remain in power, feeding off the lifeblood of the taxpayer….

I’m certain that i have now fed you enough data to allow for an “insta-pop diagnosis” of right wing irrationality, so i can stop here, secure in the knowledge that your personal biases and stereotypes are adequately fed …i would not like to be responsible for any rational rethinking on your part, i do not want to be the one to cause you to fall out of your lofty perch over the rest of humanity.

    • very astute patriot and well said!!

      • Direct and to the point !!! I’m told I can keep my the Health Ins. I currently have. Why would my Employer pay the 80/20 when they can save money by dropping the thousands of employees and have them go on to Obamacare? I have worked for Forty-six years (still am) and always paid my way (I also resent the fact that I have to pay taxes on Capital Gains,I alone took the risk) Sorry I went off in a different direction. About 80% of people are happy with their Insurance, why the urgency for passing something nobody understands? Why is it everytime goverment is told “Let us have what you have” you hear nothing-no responce at all ? Also. Congressman Joe Wilson apologe twice for saying”

        • guess I was on to long—-will finish—Congressman Joe Wilson(R) has apologe twice to Pres. Obama for yelling out, Now the Democratic are calling for another apology on the House floor. I remember Bush getting a ton of the same thing– never did anyone apology.

    • Great, you said it all. For what it’s worth I agree. I hope the blank faced Americans wake up before it’s to late

    • Why does Castro like Obama so much? He plans to empty out his hospitals this time.

  14. food for thought, you seem to be posting, not authoring that boatload of analytical crap. My apologies….

to those readers who read my initial response, please substitute the use of “you” or “your” with “Michael Bader”, or “his most exalted, Michael Bader”…(at which i think of the lessons of “Yurtle the Turtle”, from my childhood story telling days)

  17. I did not bother to real the entire post, it was WAY too long. I can put it in a few words.
    1. How will you cover 47 million more people with the same number of Doctors and Hospitals.
    2. How can you keep your insurance company when the government option will drive them out of business?
    3. You try to belittle people who mention death panels. They don’t call them d.p. but you can be assured (see #1) there WILL BE RATIONING and it WILL hit the seniors drastically. You may be able to keep your Dr. but he will NOT BE MAKING THE MEDICAL decisions, the gov. will. The studies on years of life/ quality of life HAVE ALREADY been done (death panels in effect)
The Seniors are WAY AHEAD of you.

    • 1) Having more people covered doesn’t mean they will all go to the hospital at the same time. It means that the emergency rooms will be less crowded and people with actual emergencies can get the help they need in time.

      2) The govt. option will not drive insurance companies out of business. It won’t be free. If you want the govt. option you will have to pay a premium for it. Competition doesn’t stifle innovation. This is a simple fact.

      3) You are confusing myths. The death panel myth has nothing to do with the rationing myth. The death panel myth was in relation to OPTIONAL and VOLUNTARY end of life cousneling where if the patient requested it of the doctor they could get said counseling. It gives the patient more power over what heppens to them in the event that they are put on life support. Now let’s tackle rationing:

If you have been paying attention to the recent health care debate, you are probably sick of hearing about the government’s plan to ration care for the elderly, and the least productive Americans.

Some of the arguments being used by the right sound something like this:

“We do not want rationed care like they have in Great Britain and Canada, here in the United States.”

“If the government takes over health care, they are going to ration the care of Americans over the age of 65, and those who are deemed “least productive.”

First, let’s inject a little common sense into the debate.

If you believe that the U.S. government is going to model its care after countries like Canada and Great Britain, who supposedly ration their health care, ask yourself the following questions.

1.If the elderly in Canada receive less medical treatment than Americans due to the practice of rationing, why is their life expectancy 81.2 years, over three years higher than in America?
2.If the elderly in Great Britain receive less medical treatment than Americans due to the practice of rationing, why is their life expectancy 79 years, a year higher than in America?
Looking at the facts, one is forced to come to one of two conclusions.

1.The government run health care systems in these countries do not ration their care, and there is no truth to this bogus “rationed care” argument.
2.Rationed health care leads to people living longer (this conclusion seems a bit ridiculous).
Either way, if Americans want to live longer, they should want their health care system modeled after countries who have a longer life expectancy.

Now let’s play “devil’s advocate” and concede the ridiculous point that once an American turns 65, the government will be in the business of practicing legalized murder by severely rationing their care.

Once again, let’s look at some facts.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of Americans over the age of 65 is about 36 million.

Most estimates place the number of uninsured Americans at about 46 million. But since we are playing “devil’s advocate” here, we need factor in the number that conservatives like to use as the real number of uninsured Americans. They put the number of uninsured Americans between 15 and 20 million. So let’s split the difference and say that the number of uninsured Americans is 33 million.

Once again, playing “devil’s advocate,” let’s say that due to government rationing, all 36 million Americans over the age of 65 will completely lose their health care starting today.

But by rationing the care of the elderly, the government is able to guarantee health care to the 33 million uninsured Americans under 65. This would essentially amount to a push in the number of Americans being insured.

Granted, this scenario would never play out, but the point of creating such a scenario shows that if one really wants to see rationing in action, all they have to do is take a look at our current health care system.

Private health insurance companies are willing to allow the 33 million uninsured Americans to remain at risk, simply to protect their profits. This is called “Corporate Driven Rationing,” yet conservatives seem to be okay with it.

What these planted hecklers, who are calling for their elected officials to “Just Say No” to health care reform, do not realize, is that they are actually advocating for the rationing of health care by the health insurance industry.

This article demonstrates that progressives can win this debate, as long as they frame the argument in ways that Americans can intellectually digest. Wonkish statistics do not make for good debate ammo.

Why Obama And The Democratically Led Congress Are At Fault For Losing The Health Care Debate

They are at fault for one simple reason, they have allowed Republicans and conservatives to control the message and frame the argument in a way that favors their ideology.

The Democrats always fall into the trap of thinking that average Americans can understand complicated issues like health care reform.

Here is a video where it is clearly explained that reform will end rationing rather than increase it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn0xxjpf360

      • Here’s an article from the Daily Mail in the UK today showing exactly how rationing will be part of a nationalized health plan. Remember that the population of the UK is about 60 mn vs the US with 305 mn so it will be even more difficult to keep rationing out of the equation in this country.

      • You are SO right “Christian Zombie Vampire” about all but your last sentence; however, a name change might improve your credibility. As for, ” The Democrats always fall into the trap of thinking that average Americans can understand complicated issues like health care reform,” it is incumbent upon us, the progressives, to help people understand without insulting their intelligence. If a teacher can’t get a student to learn, is it entirely the student’s fault? Usually not. As long as the student is WILLING to learn, they can usually be taught more than one might at first imagine, if the teacher is creative in their methods and dedicated to the truth.

      • Christian Zombie Vampire, where have you been in the last 9 months? You say the Republicans and conservatives have been “allowed to control the message and frame the argument in a way that favors their ideology”. Obama has had hours of FREE network broadcasting and will have much more again tonight, ALL the major networks except FOX are bending over backwards to support him on his health care program, the dems/ Obama won’t allow ANY of the conservative bills to even be conxidered, the UNIONS are all backing him on this, ACORN is working its butt off on this to support him AND YOU SAY “the Republicans and conservatives are controlling the message”!!! WOW!!! Talk about someone who is an educated ignoramus, you take the cake I’m afraid. You are definitley educated but you are totally biased and it shows big time. I would sure like to meet you and do an eye to eye with you.
        Sincerely

      • Christian, You are so wrong about Canada’s Health care—I have family there and they have many problems receiving or even seeing Doctors. An Aunt of mine had to wait six months to be seen, once she finally was–found cancer.was told there was nothing to do for it. She came to the U.S and received great treatment and after 7 years doing well. I guess Britian doesn’t have dental care-have you notice how bad their teeth are along with every other country? Pray tell, how would you keep what you have if employers cancel and now your forced into goverment healthcare? How is that a choice? Did you ever wonder why your not entitled to the same Healthcare the politicians receive ? Mind you, they have 10 to choose from!!

        • lies.

Sarah Palin is off working on her memoirs somewhere, so she wasn’t in the audience Wednesday to hear President Barack Obama call her a liar.

Palin is the most prominent politician to have promoted the idea that Obama wants to create some sort of Third Reich-style medical bureaucracy that would decide whether the disabled and the elderly deserve to live, or just have their health care terminated.

“Death panels,” Palin called them, in one of the most calculated, incendiary falsehoods of the entire health-care debate. It embarrassed even some of her fellow right wingers.

But it served its purpose, scaring the living daylights out of older voters and churning up so much anxiety over the summer that Obama was forced to address it in his speech to Congress this week.

The death panels rumour, said Obama, “would be laughable if it weren’t so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple.”

In the same speech, though, Obama cited a few uniquely American anecdotes not too far from just the sort of thing Palin and her cohort are predicting:

          * An Illinois man whose health insurance was cut off in the middle of chemotherapy because an enterprising researcher at the insurance company discovered he hadn’t reported gallstones he didn’t even know he had. With his treatment cut off, he proceeded to die.
          * A Texas woman who was about to undergo a double mastectomy when her health insurer cut her off, citing an unreported case of acne earlier in her life. By the time she got the decision reversed, said Obama, her breast cancer had more than doubled in size.

These are common stories here, reported in the media just about every day.

          * The Los Angeles woman with lupus, fluid in the heart and pancreatic cancer who was cut off health coverage because of unreported earlier back pain (which she says isn’t even true).

And of course, it doesn’t have to be true. Or even remotely related to your illness. It just has to be in your doctor’s notes, or hinted at in your doctor’s notes, even if your doctor didn’t tell you about it.

The moment the insurance company finds it, bang! Your treatment is cut off. And the insurers really start looking for excuses once you get sick and start submitting costly claims (one insurer, Health Net, has actually admitted paying bonuses to employees who dig up reasons to maroon sick clients).

If your treatment is life-preserving, like chemotherapy, and you can’t find some other way to pay, you die.

The industry term for cancelling a policy on some sort of technical grounds is “rescission,” and it is probably the most odious practice of an industry known for some pretty predatory behaviour.

Now, imagine for a moment what the reaction would be if federal or state governments started directing public servants to comb medical histories for the slightest excuse to cut off life-saving care. (It’s not well understood abroad, and sometimes not very well understood here, but the American government is already in the health-insurance business, big time. Medicare pays health-care bills for senior citizens, and Medicaid, the state-run programs, pay to treat the indigent).

The answer is obvious. It would be called what it is: Brutal, near-criminal, disgusting, inhuman behaviour. Maybe even death panels. And it wouldn’t last long once the public found out.

The curious thing is, when private companies do it, companies whose profit motive is diametrically opposed to the well-being of their clients, the American public remains relatively supine.

This sort of thing has been going on here for years, and while the horror stories are denounced regularly by liberal activists and routinely retailed by Democrats in stump speeches, it seems to be regarded by the public at large as just business. As in: “Well, they do have shareholders to answer to.”

In the minds of many here, business is good for America, and whatever business has to do to make money is good for America, too.

Certainly you don’t hear much about health insurance rescission from Sarah Palin, or Senator Jim DeMint, or the Christian conservative leaders who are now mobilizing against Obama’s plan. They have various motives. Palin wants to be president. The evangelicals believe Obama’s plan will lead to publicly financed abortion. Others, like DeMint, have stated flatly they simply want Obama to fail.

But where great swathes of the public are concerned, the antipathy to publicly funded medicine is something else. Clearly, a lot of people here fear any plan run by their own government more than that of the most venal insurance company.

It’s partly the innate distrust of government itself among conservative Americans, and it’s partly the widespread American self-image as a nation of rugged individualists who scorn public handouts, as delusional as that may be (see earlier reference to Medicare and Medicaid, not to mention the ocean of public subsidies that flow from Washington).

Obama himself has been talking about a woman who sent him a letter containing a stern admonition: “‘I don’t want government-run health care. I don’t want you meddling in the private marketplace. And keep your hands off my Medicare.’”

“True story,” says Obama, when he tells it.

And sort of pathetic, given the stakes of what’s going on here.

The fact is, there is so little understanding of what really exists here now and what is actually being proposed that for Palin and her cohort, working against Obama’s plan amounts to picking low-hanging fruit.

After Obama’s speech, the Washington Post quoted a middle-aged woman sitting in the waiting room of a local hospital.

The speech, she said, sent her blood pressure up: “For every story he tells about somebody that doesn’t have insurance, there’s one you can tell about somebody who wouldn’t get treatment because the government wouldn’t allow it.”

Well, as somebody who lived for 40 years in a country that has one of the most strictly public health systems in the world, I know all about the shortcomings of government-funded medicine. But in all those years, I never saw anything like what the insurance companies here are capable of.

To borrow one of Palin’s attack phrases: “Downright evil.”

I love my country and I want my voice heard that I don’t want bigger Gov’t and all these hand outs that will drive our country to the ground. ( JUST SAY NO!!!! to more DEBT)

  22. Yeah. It’s either what you write or we mean what we say, “The spending under Obama and the Democrats is ruinous; the bailouts of W and Barak are economically indefensible; the Cap and Trade nonsense will collapse the economy of the U. S. and thus, the world and the nationalization of the health care industry will make us all slaves beholden to the federal government. ”

The colossal projection in your article is hilariously obvious. Think of your average, individualistic, right winger and your stereotypical collectivist left winger and ask yourself, “Which of these does the following description fit to a “T?”

Collectivists by definition herd together against “The Man,” “The Multinationals,” “Big Business,” “The polluters,” “The racists,” etc.
The Tea Party Movement is the first time that the right has “joined with others” “to defend themselves against…power.”

Looks like the seniors in our nation will have their lives changed drastically by a lot of the things our government is proposing “ie” health care, social security and all the other lame brained ideas the congress has come up with. Stop spending our money and making things worse for our children and grandchildren. At this time it looks like the biggest change of all will be the changing of all the representatives voting on proposals many of which have not been read.

  33. Fellow Patriots,
Are any of you familiar with the DC area? I am comming up from NC by car and am wondering where we can park and ride into DC. Any info would be much appreciated.

    • Yes, I live in the DC area and my husband and I are attending the march on Sat. The best thing to do if you are driving is to park at one of the metro stations (free on Saturdays) and take the metro. The website for the DC metro system is http://www.wmata.com. See you there tomorrow.

    • West Falls Church Metro is one of the metros with larger parking lots…there is also Dunn Lorring, Vienna metros on the Orange Line. 495 to 66 – exit 66 to WFC metro. Good luck!

    Hello Friends,

We traveled by bus to Washington DC for the Saturday rally. We left on Friday night at 10pm and returned Sunday morning at 4:30am.

Saturday morning our bus dropped us off at a train station where we boarded the orange line and rode for 30 minutes to Freedom Plaza.

The time was around 9:30am, the weather was warm and the crowd was awesome.

The 9-12 DC March began early due to the large crowd. We started our historic walk down Pennsylvania Avenue with the Capitol Building as our distant goal. To see the Capitol Building as our final destination was absolutely inspiring. To watch my fellow patriots, walking with pride holding their signs was humbling.

I saw babies pushed in strollers, elderly pushed in wheelchairs, young children, teenagers, young adults, and fellow seniors. We were there with one common thread holding us together, our love for America. We hugged, we cried, we sang, and we cheered for our purpose, we were there to support each other, to give each other the courage to continue our movement to get our country back.

We were orderly, polite, kind and considerate. We were America at her best. I was extremely proud of my fellow citizens and of my country.

I thought of the men and women that have died to give us the right to protest, the right of freedom of speech, and I cried. Thank God for them and thank God for America.

When the event was coming to a close we promised each other we will continue our efforts to get our country back, and we will.

I was in Washington for my children, my grandchildren, myself and for my friends.

May God bless you, and may God bless America.

  49. Hi hope you get this. Did you hear about the march on Congress for this Thursday Nov 5 2009. Mark Levine and Jon Voight will be there. It was on the Rush Limbaugh show today. It is for people to show up and stare the Congress down. One senator, whom I don’t recall her name…right now said at this point she believes this will be the only thing that will stop the bill from passing for the health care. I am hoping someone will organize a trip to DC and I can’t hop on board. I don’t have the organizational skills anymore, but will help any way I can. I know people will want to go once they hear about it. It is close, but we are to meet on the steps of the Capital and fill the halls then and I know tons will come. Please blog about a trip and I will be there!!!! Thanks. Maryann NMYRTLEBEACH SC
