What I find ironic is that *your* party created far more “big government” than Obama et al. are proposing. Having government create a social safety net at a 10 year cost of $1 trillion hardly seems a problem when you consider that the war-of-choice in Iraq is pushing the $3 trillion mark already. Add to that the USA-PATRIOT act, the FISA expansion, the Military Tribunals act, and turning a blind eye to the illegal actions of the Bush admin and I think *your* big government is FAR more dangerous—and far greater imperative to fix.

Christ taught individual charity, not “band together, form a government, and force people to pay for what they have decided is right.” We will be judged as individuals, not as a group of taxpayers. Interesting Bible verses, but I missed the part where any of these verses say “forma government and give it power to make you be charitable though the law.” In fact Jesus often spoke out against old law in that it was made to satify the desires of man and not the desires of God. I always find it comical when liberals try to use the Bible (usually, out of context) to justify their liberal socialism.
You didn’t read the passage from Acts, did you? The one where the early Church gathered all their assets together and held them in common to do their good works—i.e. the early Church formed a communist governing system for its followers.
That’s much like how the Mormon church works now isn’t it? You have to give 10% of your pay to the church and if you ever fall on really hard times they will take care of you and help you get back on yoru feet. It’s a pretty impressive system. They are one of the richest religions in the world and own several corporations too. My sister in law is a very conservative Mormon and a nurse. Even she likes the public option idea. Then again she works so long hours so she doesn’t have time to be brainwashed by Glenn Beck.
Interestingly, if you research deep enough you can find several proofs that point to Mormonism being modelled partially off of the Freemason system. Which makes sense; It was started by a disgraced Freemason who wanted more money and power.
As a tithe-paying Mormon, let me correct Straight Talk Express on a small but important point: choosing to pay 10% to the Mormon church is the same as paying 10% to any other church–it is VOLUNTARY choice on the part of the giver. Nobody takes it from me, it is a free-will offering.
The same goes for the early Christian church: nobody (and no government) forced them to have all things in common–it was a CHOICE. Those living in China or Cuba don’t get to opt-out.
Liberty-loving Americans know that the virtue in giving is in CHOOSING to give, not having someone (or some government) rob you, then give it to others. Sorry, but the message that it’s good for government to grab your money, then “give” on your behalf was tried by Hitler, Mussolini, Lenin, Chavez, Castro, and too many US politicians past & present. What you folks don’t understand is that these “fear filled ” folks aren’t against health care for those that need it. They are just informed enough to know that anything the government does never works as they state yet once they start it it never ends. They all want health care and insurance changes but they want it through the free market. At least with the private sector you might have some kind of recourse if you have a complaint but with government they will not care what you have to say and they have no one they have to answer to so we will all be getting the cold shoulder. My wife and I had government health care (military) and they made her mop the floor around her bed right after our daughter was born. I have two teeth that are at a 45 degree angle because a military dentist pulled one of my teeth and never mentioned I needed a bridge to support the teeth on either side of the space left by the pulled tooth. Thirty years later I had it taken care of in the private sector. Fearful? You bet. All this plan will do is benefit those putting it together. Strange the folks planning it don’t want anything to do with it for themselves. They are denying things are in that bill that are there. For God’s sake read it and don’t take a politicians words as truth.
What does the Bible state about abortion? It is in the bill and Obama himself supports the worse kind of abortion, partial birth. Read the bill and then say you support it. They are lying in order to get this through.

In history classes we learned about the concept of “no taxation without representation.” If this is still true today, and our generation’s children and grandchildren will end up having to pay ever higher taxes to pay for all of the expenditures enacted by Congress and the current administration, whether it be for “Stimulus” packages, “Cash for Clunkers”, or “ObamaCare”, then young children should have the right to vote, and also the right to vote for their own peer group to serve as members of Congress for it is obvious that they are currently not represented in Congress. If young children were able to serve in Congress do you think they would vote to pass bills that would eventually tax them into oblivion? Current members of Congress seem to have lost all sense of reasonableness and are acting totally irresponsibly with little or no concern for the well being of future generations.
I keep hearing this, “no taxation without representation” stuff. The fact is–citizens get to vote for leaders in this Republic. That means the majority gets to decide, and the losers do not get to make policy. The representation is there, but the winners supposedly have more power.
For example Bush did things many Americans did not like: he gave big tax cuts which mostly favored the wealthiest few while starting two wars at the same time.
Likewise, many of us were not happy to hear witnesses swear under oath that the White House was warned about 9/11.
However, some who did not vote for Bill Clinton could not wait for the next election. They proceded to start campaiging early. They were happy to distract President Clinton with small-time civil suits (In the past such things had to wait until the Commander was out of office).
Also, many of us saw trouble coming when President Clinton and the whole world heard, “wag the dog-wag the dog”) when he tried to do his job and keep us safe. For example he was criticized for reminding Saddam about the no fly zone. Likewise it was considered terrible when he took a shot at Osama Ben Forgotten. All of this, despite the fact that Bill Clinton had actually won the election.
I wondered; what ever happened to the chicken hawks? Do they want power so badly as to turn into pacifists until President Clinton leaves office?
No, many of us did not like many of the things Bush–Chaney–Rove and their power-mad supporters did, but they were in office so we had to suffer, and watch our country go straight to hell in every way.
Actually; I doubt that many of these Anarchists even make enough to pay much in taxes. Furthermore, it is a fact that these tea-bag-suckers are being duped by the powerful interests. The insurance companies, oil companies and other freeloading corporations pay big money to public relations firms and law makers. (Anyone who tries to reform this situation gets called a Socialist–as if the suckers even know what such theories are about). These bag–suckers think that they are, “grass roots organizations.”–not hardly.

Move insurances nation wide and uniformly, so insurances can cross state lines…leveling the playing field. Doug, you hit it right on the head. All of this could be solved in the private sector if they would change the situations that you stated above. Non union contractors have been trying to get insurance available across state lines for years and years with no results. That is where the answers are. How come Congress wants no part of this healthcare program?

I do not like paying taxes, nor do I like taking anything I have not earned. I take unemployent when I am out of work, but if I were not taxed at such a high rate, I would have put that tax money in the bank with my other savings and I would not need “unemployment”. I ask nothing for free from the government, but I do demand that when I pay taxes, I get value for my money.

Considering that most of what Washington DC taxes us for is illegal, I see nothing wrong with dialing down our theives in D.C. It is very unfortunate that voters on both sides are not well versed in the actual facts contained in the Constitution and that so many in elected office Obama included are either uneducated in the facts of the Constitution or are willfully violating it. I have made a 30 year study of the U.S. Constittution and it’s supporting documents and this study shows me that most of the “so called” leaders of the nation do not follow the Constitution and merely make up rules to suit themselves and enrich their own accounts. It is indeed sad that the people of this country are so willfully uneducated in the Constitution and it’s history.
I think most of us have studied the Constitution and it is interesting that there are many differing opinions as to its interpretation. It is most important to understand the vision of the founding fathers in that they were smart enough to realize that the world in the future would not be the same as it was at the time of the drafting of the Constitution. Many disagree with that concept without understanding the role of the three branches. It is important to understand the role that congress is allowed to play under constitutional rule. If Congress who makes the laws is operating outside of the powers granted them in the Constitution then we have a problem.
I am in favor of intelligent debate of the current issues but all we are really hearing is noise from those that oppose the current administration’s agenda and it is not a majority that is in opposition. The pity of the matter is there is that a large percentage of those opposing who are doing so just because a black man is president of the United States. Yes, I played the race card and many of you on the Republican side know exactly what I am saying. Now that is not true for everyone but there is a bunch whose only purpose is to defeat the black man who occupies the office. When I saw some of the interviews a Palin rallies who just out right said that they had a problem with a black man being president. This was the republican base speaking.

Why , when we try to down play some form of government plan do we use England and Canada if their plans are so bad? There are other Gov. run plans in the world that are successful. Are we so stupid that we knowing this would design our plan just like the ones that we think are so bad? Or would we start with what is good and build on that? What difference does it make where a man works — my point is that insurance companies have their say, why can’t the Gov.? Being that our government is for the people and by the people — then it looks like we are our own problem — because the government is us.

I suggest a quick read of Bruce Catton’s “The Comming Fury”. Leading up to the Civil War it was the northern conservatives (the brand new REPUBLICAN party led by A. Lincoln) that led the fight against further spread of slavery, were willing to go to war over the issue, and eventually gave American Blacks emancipation, in the face of massive and eventually deadly opposition led by Southern (and many Northern) DEMOCRATS.
The Civil Rights Acts of the 1960’s would never have seen the light of day without the REPUBLICAN party forcing the issue with the stubbornly racist southern and again, northern DEMOCRATS.
Black voters en masse have been rewarding the DEMOCRAT party for this by their vote for decades, but as a demographic group the lag far behind in virtually every social and economic measure. Where has all this loyalty gotten you? And you want to accuse REPUBLICANS of being racist?

Excellent questions Truthseeker512. Why are we not asking Canada, UK, other countries what they would do differently, if they had it to do over again? Why are we not asking Massachusetts what they have learned from their health care experiments? Why not come up with a plan, then test it first on a small scale? Why jam through an enormous, economy-killing bill with no input whatsoever from non-Democrats? Why the rush?
Disclosure: I don’t favor a single-payer system. This is because I prefer to have more health care choices, and I believe there are better ways to solve the problems with the current system, such as tort reform, insurance portability, and expanded access to catastrophic coverage.

Our Government is suppose to be WE THE PEOPLE, for the people and by the people, but it has not been for a while. Those people in Washington are so out of touch with the people, they have their own agenda and it is not us.
First off, allow me to say that I am a member of the Republican base. Secondly I have no issues with the skin color of the man presently occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. My problem is with the ideology this man professes that those in government know more and are more intelligent than those people in the general populace. This portrays a deep sense of elitism on the parts (the old “I am better than you” syndrome). These folks do not want to listen to the people who put them in their current positions to begin with. It does not matter what party they come from; they all think the same. And until such time that term limits are enacted which will prevent the establishment of these political feifdoms, America will continue on it’s present, downward spiral. Just like Dr Martin Luther King said, I too judge people not by the color of their skin, but the character of their heart. So do not play the race card here. That’s just a bogus way making lame excuses to cover up the inadequacies of the current government in place in Washington. Conservatives are also wonderful at spending poor and middle-class peoples money to enrich their friends and friends’ corporations (and thus their stock own portfolios). They are also good at spending the blood of the poor and middle-class on a senseless war for the same reasons.
You people are a mindless cancer on the butt of society. I support Barack Obama 100% It is about time we had a president who sincerely wanted to help America and not just his buddies in big business.
Ok Stan, it’s nice to hear that you support Obama 100%. I am happy for you. But I have to take issue with the big business comment. It seems to me that Obama is doing an A-1 job of taking care of all the unions (AFL-CIO, SEIU, UAW, et. al) just like Bush, according to your logic took care of big business. So looking at it from that paradigm, whats the difference. Special interests are special interests. But while the political leeches pander to them, the average working American get screwed. You know, the guy who works hard 6 days a week, sacrifices his wants and desires to provide food, shelter, clothing and other care (including medical insurance) and never says a word. Never walks around with his hand out looking for a handout. Knows what he has to do and DOES IT. Day in and day out. And now he’s expected to pay for those who are financially irresponsible, who refuse to do whatever it takes to better themselves. You know them; the guy who bought the house he knew from day one that there was no way in Hades he could afford it. The guys who have to have the new car every year instead of keeping the 5 year old one. I could go on and on. If the Lord High Obama really wants to help America, he would inspire people to succeed through hard work and due diligence instead of running hat in hand to the government for a freebie. Like President John F. Kennedy said “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”. What he was saying is that YOU, the individual, are the master of your own destiny. You were not supposed to EXPECT that the government would supply your every need from cradle to grave. When one becomes dependent on any entity for their existence and survival, then they become a slave to the master.
Our fore-fathers wrote “WE THE PEOPLE” not we the government into the constitution for a reason. The government started income tax as a temporary tax not life long event. The Democrats or Republicans have
been running the show too long. It is time for some blood in Washington. If the politicans would stop
stealing from the people we would have money. We need to put term limits on these positions. The middle class people can no longer support everyone. The rich need to pay also. These folks that are on these programs need to get off their ass and stop taking from others. We need to clean out washington and the supreme court and start over. We the people need to take our country back.
I would like to say that when Obama was making his speech on
Healthcare, I was sitting here in my home saying exactly the same as
the Senator that yelled it out in the chamber.
Obama told lie after lie and it is time that he understands that we as
Americans are tired of his lies about the care provided especially for
seniors and illegal immigrants.
Just yesterday I went to get my medication refilled, medication I have
been on for over four years. I just went onto Medicare this year and
therefore I dropped the very expensive private healthcare and went to
Medicare and a supplement. I pay for both! So what happens when I
get to the pharmacy to get my blood pressure medication filled, but a
response from the pharmacist that Medicare recommends an alternate
beta blocker, etc. Bottom line Medicare is telling me that I have to
change the blood pressure medication that has proven to be effective
and go to an alternative medication that has not been. I paid for the
medication myself, full price, $104….why, because I needed the blood
pressure medication then and not after a waiting period in which the
insurance, Medicare would decide for my doctor what was the best
medication for me!
I praise God, not Obama or Medicare that I had the money to pay for
the medication. Unfortunately, there are millions out there that
would not have had the money and would have had to wait for their
medication to be approved, on their timeline and if not approved, then
have to be a guinea pig when experimenting with the drug of their
choice! The patient could die or have a stroke!
Telling me that Medicare works and that a public plan might be the
best option simply tells me that you lie! I do not mean you, but
anyone that would make that statement.
So when the Senator yelled out “you lie”, I am sure it was due to the
frustration with a man that would stand in front of the nation and
lie, lie, lie.
An ace is an ace and nothing more! Fact are facts and the fact is
that people are sick and tired of a President that would believe that
we, the average person walking the streets, is stupid, gullible or
ignorant. This is an insult and it is time he kniew it!
So call him what he is…..a liar and deceiver.
He would have served the public and his country a great service if he
had stood up and told the truth for a change. He does not know what
this healthcare plan should be, he does not have any idea what it will
cost and he will never represent our interest by ignoring what is
written in the bill put before the Senate.

We all are getting the same esperience with the medications,no longer what the Doctor prescribe,but what the medicare decide!! The LIAR sis sitting confortable in the PEOPLES HOUSE! Sorry I suport the president 100%. People are in need of medical care and can’t afford it, on the other hand I’m pretty sure you must have all the coverage you and your family need and probably working a good job or have good retirement. Everyone is not that forninate. But remember anyone could be only a pay check away. Too bad you didn’t have such great ideas when the previous presidant was taking us down.

Well my dear I don’t have a good JOB or a good retirement,jus t alittle check from Social Security,after working years after years,so my husband, and still trying to do work for extra income.We do pay for our insurance Medicare/copay which the money it is taking from our social security checks leaving our checks with less money to survive! And regarding the pass President, the problem in our country come from years before,during the spending by Clinton trying to convince the country that the economy was in a great shape,when in fact their were getting money from China to keep the economy looking great! It was like Robin Hood taking from the rich to give to the poor,but in this case the rich China still wants their money back with high interest(%) The past president was ddaily attack no only by the Liberal press but by a Liberal Congress that never acomplish anything ,but creating more division and controversy.And now WE the PEOPLE are paying for all the years of terrible administration.AH and don’t forget President “CARTER” How about HIM!!!
